We Have All GLP-1s Now!
We began prescribing Mounjaro (the newest GLP-1 analog) at Cordova Weight Loss with great results! It is a remarkably good weight loss medication. Due to patient interest, we also now prescribe the other GLP-1 drugs which are Victoza, Saxenda, Trulicity, Ozempic, and Wegovy. Some people may want to try the earlier drugs for insurance coverage or other reasons. These can be taken with Phentermine as well.
Below is a timeline describing all the GLP-1 drugs and how they compare to one another.
The first GLP-1 analog was Victoza (liraglutide), brought out in 2010. Then Saxenda (also liraglutide) came out in 2014. It's the same drug as Victoza, but in a higher dose. These two injections were used daily, because at that time they had not discovered how to extend the life of the drug in your body.
Trulicity (dulaglutide) debuted in 2014, with a much longer half-life, so it only needed to be injected once per week, instead of everyday. It also provided better weight loss than the earlier meds.
In 2017, Ozempic (semaglutide) came out and it was followed in 2021 by Wegovy (also semaglutide), which is the same GLP-1 but in a higher dose. These provided even better weight loss than previous GLP-1 drugs. They are also used once a week, by injection.
Mounjaro (tirzepatide) came out in May of 2022, and it caused about 50% better weight loss than Ozempic and Wegovy (both semaglutide). Mounjaro is also taken once a week by injection.
