We can now see patients in Tennessee through telemedicine!

We are now able to treat adults in Tennessee by telemedicine – just give us a call! This is a great option for our patients who live far away, like Jackson, Nashville, Knoxville, and Chattanooga. It saves you long weekly drives, and it costs about the same as if you came to the office each week for a shot. [We hope to add Arkansas and Mississippi later this year. If you are from a state other than Tennessee, you will need to come see us in Cordova TN. However, after your first visit, you can just call us for a refill.]

We are treating patients with compounded tirzepatide, the same active ingredient in Mounjaro. As you probably already know, Mounjaro is a highly effective glucose control drug for type II diabetes, but it appears to be very effective for weight loss also in patients with normal glucose. You just need to give yourself a shot with a tiny needle (barely felt) once per week. Most of our patients who are coming to the office to get weekly shots are losing about 10 lbs per month on average. I spoke with one of our patients yesterday who has lost 52 lbs in 3 months! As you can imagine, she was very happy.

How does telemedicine work? First you will speak to a screener in our office who will help determine if you are a likely candidate for weight loss with tirzepatide. These things will exclude you:

1. Type 1 diabetes

2. History of pancreatitis

3. Personal or close family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma

4. Personal or close family history of multiple endocrine neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN2)

5. Renal failure requiring hemodialysis

6. Taking oral blood thinner medication

7. History of gastroparesis

8. Breast feeding or pregnant

If none of these apply to you, then you are likely a very good candidate, and our screener will have you speak to our nurse practitioner (NP). If the NP agrees, she will prescribe compounded tirzepatide for you. It will be called in to the compounding pharmacy within 24 hours. It takes the compounding pharmacy about 1-3 weeks to get it to you. They are backed up because this drug is so popular.

When the pharmacist processes your Rx, the vial will be shipped overnight express with a cold pack. When you get the vial, put it in the refrigerator. Your package will include syringes & alcohol pads. It is very easy to draw up the medication and give yourself the shot. (See our infographics on this website.) The pharmacist will have dosage instructions, but you can always call back and talk with our NP if you have questions.

The brand name drug costs $1,000 a month or more. The compounded tirzepatide is not cheap, but the price is much better: $600 for a 2ml vial and $1200 for a 4.5ml vial. The small vial will last you 6-8 weeks, and the larger vial will last 10-16 weeks, depending upon dosage. One of our patients lost 20 lbs his first month, and he elected to stay on the lowest dose the second month too, because it was still effective. He is currently down 60 lbs.
